Italian GP: Drivers, pundits, bosses on Monza’s bizarre qualifying finish

How the paddock responded to one of their most extraordinary – and bizarre – finishes to your Formula 1 qualifying session at memory…
Martin Brundle:”This is one of the silliest things I’ve ever seen in F1.”
Karun Chandhok:”It was extraordinary. Shambolic and eccentric, I have never noticed anything like it”
Nico Rosberg:”You’re not permitted to do that, however they were doing it. They are all bang !”
Paul Di Resta:”I seems silly when you’ve got professional teams using this technology and everyone misses out.”
Anthony Davidson:”You put more drag on the cars, such as this season, you receive a better slipstream. By tweaking the cars, you get this recipe. The straights are somewhat more significant.”
Nico Hulkenberg:”We’re all looking for a tow because in case you want to do the supreme fastest lap time that is exactly what you want about this. It’s powerful so much lap time. You lose about the straights when you push in your own and you also can’t make that time in the corners up. Hence we ended up with such ailments. Obviously it was a bit weird and odd for certain.”
Carlos Sainz: With all these draggier cars this year that the tow is worth half a minute and everybody needs that half a second.”
Daniel Ricciardo: Everyone else was only trying to find a bit too smart and it simply encouraged everybody to make a wreck.”
Lewis Hamilton:”The tow is vital to having a good lap here and everybody was slowing down, along with blocking the way you could not really get through. It was dangerous, I almost crashed a couple of times.
“I couldn’t overtake anyone, there was flying and pruning, and it was like trying to avoid carnage all of the time.
Lance Stroll:”It was a bit of a comedy show out that in Q3. The time was just underestimated by everyone into the flag. I had been at the front of the queue and Nico and games were enjoying with that he cut at the chicane seeking to get me out in front, and that I wasn’t buying it. So I was taking my time, waiting for him to get back on the right course. Then after other cars began overtaking me and it just became a mess.”
Charles Leclerc:”I sort of expected it because obviously it has been a mess from the start of the weekend, however, particularly in Q1 to Q3. I didn’t expect to find myself in a position like the exit of Flip where the Renault and McLaren was obstructing completely the road and nobody may move.”
Christian Horner:”The Renault which went straight on all caused all the issues. Needless to say, nobody wishes to be in the front of the queue and it’s clear he moved. Then it ends up at a cluster scenario.”
Toto Wolff:”The challenge is that everybody is hoping to acquire the slipstream and it’s a nerve game, who exits first. Then some who have exited first felt thought they will need to decrease the speed even more, extending through the chicane and out of the trail is just junior course.”
Cyril Abiteboul:”Everyone is talking about the fact that the gap should be quite low, but if that actually happens everyone is trying to take advantage of each and every detail.”
